Personal History
My name is Daniel Dindas, I am 18 years old and live in Melbourne Australia. I am interested in Physics, Philosophy and Science fiction. I have been a member of the Dropshock Brigade since September 20th 2009. If you ever want to talk about anything relating to science, philosophy, or critical thinking. Pm me, I'm always happy to have intellectual discussions.
The following information is stuff I consider very important to myself, and have actually never gone into as much depth and detail as I will now.
I became active in the online community when I was 12-13. I've been playing video games all my life. My first taste of online gaming was a mix of Halo 2 online, which I never really got into as I had horrible lag issues, and a MMORPG called The Matrix Online. I've played many online games before (WoW, SWG and EvE) Yet none of them would have the profound effect on me as MXO would. Many of the experiences I gain lead me to become the person I am today, and is the reason I am the leader that I am.
During this time though, I was a very different person from the man I am today. In fact I reckon none of you would recognize the boy who was, and the man that is now, I was ever called Prime back then, back then my handle was Aaren. Back then I was far more emotional, I thought with my heart not my head. My interests were still very much the same, I had a calm arrogance that showed my naivety yet simultaneously my ambition. I was extremely cocky to say the least. I had a chip on my shoulder and looked for any excuse to show my superiority. Both Intellectually and in game.
In fact this is one of the reasons I am so easily able to empathize with many of the younger members in this clan, because I was very much the same as they are now. I used to get upset when my fellow clan members called me names, only to realize that was part of the initiation into the clan. I would apologize incecently, for actions that were so inconsequential that 5 minutes later they were already forgotten. But most of all, I was impulsive, I didn't know what I wanted. I was nowhere near the person I am today. I played MXO for nearly 3 years until the age of 15/16. During this time I had many experiences, I spent time alone as a rogue, and time in factions (clans). I learned the benefits of both situations.
Yet it was in clans I learnt the greatest lessons that I still act on today. My first lesson was a simple one, but one that would forever have an effect on who I was. The clan was "The Truce" quite a big clan for the server, over 100 members. I had been a member for around a month, and become very friendly with my fellow clan members. One day I logged in to find the clan completely disbanded, not only that, but I found my fellows clan members being killed in pvp by the men and women who 24 hours ago had been their brothers and sisters. Our very leaders, high command and switched sides and double crossed the majority of the clan, all to make a profit. The lesson here. Never underestimate anyone...ANYONE! After that, I left the ways of clans, I had had my trust shattered, and I wasn't about to forgive those guilty. Eventually I formed my own Hovercraft (Squads), with soldiers I knew I could trust, honorable, brave individuals who like me, were ambitious but also skeptical of those around us. Many things happened during this time, things that I won't go into now, you're free to ask me next time you see me. What happened next though would be have the most profound affect on me, and would change the person I was forever.
One day during a mission, I got a pm from someone named Death670. He was interested in inviting my Hovercraft to join his faction. Zions United. I didn't see the harm in meeting with him, I took my second in command Matazar with me. Death met me with his 3 Captains, Mave, Sospechoso and most Importantly Kazerus. Kazerus to this day, is one of the main reasons I am who I am today. He would become one of the greatest influences the leader I am, and the person I am. During this meeting, I was persuaded to join them, and become a member of their clan. A decision I am incredibly glad to have made. Together Death, Mave, Kazerus and I became the stuff of MXO legend. I'm not trying to sound cocky here, but we all became the best in our respective fields on our server. When we were together nothing could stop us. Which ever side we were on, was bound to win. Not only by our abilities to fight, but by our abilities to inspire our fellow soldiers. During this time, my obvious leadership flaws came out. My lack of self control, how emotional I was, my lack of forsight, all these reasons and more, made me unfit to lead a hovercraft in this clan. So I was offered to step down and join Kazerus' Hovercraft as his 2nd in command. Kazerus became my teacher, he taught me many of the things I now teach to my platoon members. He taught me how use tact when speaking, how to be persuasive, how to think critically, how to think with my head and not my heart. And most importantly, how to lead. In fact Kazerus had such a strong effect on me that even to this day, I respect him as my teacher. The one person who will forever be my Sensei. Without him, I doubt I would ever have made it past the level of Sergeant in this clan. Yet as always, great things do not last. Eventually a conflict arose between Death670, and my Commander Kazerus. Which lead to the eventual split of the faction, I remember Death670, asking me to stay with him in the clan, knowing that I could not forsake my Commander Kazerus. To this day, I regret how things ended back then. It was a tragic end to a beautiful clan. I was later told that before the official splitting of Zion's United, a meeting had been held in which High Command had agreed that I had passed my test of leadership, and that while it existed, Zion's United acknowledged and recognized me as The leader of a Hovercraft and a fellow member of High Command.
Yet out of the ashes arose a new clan, Clan Zephyr, although never reaching the grand heights of Zion's United, clan zephyr certainly had it's effect on MXO and even branched out into other games such as EQ2 and World of Warcraft. I continued to learn from Kazerus, applying the lessons I learnt from him into real life as well. Which benefitted me greatly, this is something I try to urge all my troopers to do. Eventually I was given Command of the entire MXO branch of Clan Zephyr, and then came another blow. My 2nd in Command Matazar left. Unable to handle the commitment, he completely abandoned me. This was one of the greatest disappointments I have yet to experience in my gaming life. Yet I recovered and continued onwards. Eventually though Clan Zephyr began to fade. Mave left to play WoW exclusively, Sospechoso, one of my dearest friends, had real life commitments, and Kazerus was going into College. Eventually I myself had real life commitments that no longer allowed me to Administer an entire clan by myself, and so after nearly 3 years. I said goodbye to MXO and all my friends I'd known. It was time to move on...
Brigade History
Nearly 3 years later after the events of MXO, having washed my hands of clans and organizations. I felt that I was once again ready to be a part of something greater than myself. Something that I could contribute to. So I posted in the classified's section of b.net. Only to have Vitamin pm a message about joining (what was then) The 340th ODST Battalion. After checking it out, I was very impressed with the organization and structure of this clan. Go check out my enlistment thread, I go into brief detail about my history there. From there it was a quick journey through Enlistment and soon enough I was a private. After being in the clan a month, I was promoted to the position of Lance Corporal for passing advanced Training. Two weeks after that I was promoted to the position of Corporal for successfully passing one of Vitamin's scenarios. I kept a cool head and help alleviate the tension of the situation. It was clear to many people, that I was rising through the ranks very quickly, Having only been in the clan a month and a half and already I was a Corporal. The lessons I'd learnt from past experience had paid off well. Credit to Kazerus again . Now I was in charge of a Squad. What would become Team Wolfpack. I wasn't leader of them for long, but I was proud to be their squad leader, many of them are no longer. Members such as TheGuardianWolf and JessieTheWolf. Were honorable troopers whom I shall remember forever. Yet it was terribly difficult to command a Squad which was on the other side of the world to me. Luckily it was only 2 months later I would be promoted to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant and be put in Command of Bravo Platoon. In the scope of 4 month I had gone from Private to 2nd Lieutenant. Bravo platoon was proud platoon, filled with some members who are now a part of 3rd Platoon such as Welsh, Laddie and Taxadox. All great friends whom I have been through think and thin with. Welsh especially was someone I knew would eventually rank up as well, having him as my 2nd in Command is a fact I am very proud of. Along with a few others who are still with us, and some who have gone on to new places. You can still find threads of Bravo platoon in the 3rd Platoon forum. During this time I was away for nearly month, when it was only a matter of time before Bravo platoon and indeed the entire Clan was reformed into what is now The Dropshock Brigade. I was now in Command of 3rd Platoon, now with my 1st Sergeant Welsh and my Sergeant Engage. All 3 Squads. I lead them all proudly to a brighter and stronger future.
